After Sandra and I had our initial meeting to discuss ideas. I showed her a small portfolio of work and she showed me some of her favourite children's books. I prepared the Cost Analysis & Schedule Breakdown (see below) and e-mailed it to her.
We discussed some more ideas over the phone and then I began work on a character. Boy was I wrong! My brilliant idea was this funny old potato sitting on a tall metal planter.

Based
on publishing guidelines RE submitting written and artwork together,
albeit each publisher will have different guidelines which should be
followed; it is probably a good idea to have properly broken down text
with three Key Submission Illustrations (ie, Cover, Double Spread and a
Right design).
I
will submit quick sketches of some key characters (early next week) so
you have input before I start. I will submit Preliminary Concept Mock Up
Artwork for each of the three Key Submission Illustrations for approval
before beginning illustrations (mid-August).
I
will send you the Final Art (see below) so we still have two weeks to
go over any changes you might like to see (finishing details) before
second half payments are due.
And
I could do a Supplemental Concept Mock Up after the three Illustrations
are completed for the Inside Title Page, Left Design Single Page and
the Back Cover. We can make a decision about this by December once the
illustrations are complete.
